This class explores music from many different perspectives: singing, playing, reading, listening, conducting, composing, and most importantly, working together! Students will work in house teams to learn building blocks of rhythm, pitch, and intervals; take to the Quidditch pitch and learn to fly according to tempo and dynamics; attend Charms class and learn the “wandwork” of conducting; and sing and build ear training skills in the “frog choir” – complete with puppets! Using Shaina Taub’s musical adaptation of Shakespeare’s AS YOU LIKE IT, we will explore the ways the language and Shakespeare and musicals intersect as we do scene and song work from the script. The two-week intensive will include stage combat and movement, scene study, and a performance of scenes from the show. Camp participants will be invited to be in the ensemble of the Free Range Humans production of AS YOU LIKE IT, a professional/community collaboration, as part of the Frederick Shakespeare Festival produced by the Endangered Species Project. | Taught by Elizabeth Lucas
